Mario Holzner is deputy director and economist at The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw). He is coordinator of the wiiw country analysis team and concentrates on economic and political monitoring of countries of Southeast Europe, with a focus on macro-economic developments, international trade, financial markets and economic inequality. He has recently worked on issues of competitiveness of Western Balkan countries as well as short-term and long-term effects of infrastructure developments in the SEE region. Mario Holzner is also a lecturer in applied econometrics (and cliometrics) at the University of Vienna, Department of Economics. He obtained his PhD at the Vienna University of Economics and Business in 2005. In 2016 he started his PhD studies in history at the University of Vienna.
